Prof. Graham Pierce, Ph.D.The best results for beginners are achieved through daily Yoga Nidra practice, lasting 15 to 30 minutes. With continued daily practice of this length, neurological patterns develop that enable the practice to be beneficial to the patient. My new students practice it before breakfast or at bedtime. The daily practice prepares the nervous system for a deeper and more relaxed state. The cumulative effect of such practice can be perceived within a period of about two weeks.

Flexibility of timing allows for different schedules. My very busy clients will work it in during meal breaks and drive times. Brief sessions provide excellent continued benefits. Consistency leads to neurological changes that are independent of time duration. If days go by without practicing, it won't hinder your progress. Just start again when you can.
Progress monitoring ensures motivation levels are maintained. Noticing the small changes, such as easier breathing and calmness of thinking. My students take brief notes in a Journal, recording the sessions. Usually, relief of physical tension is noticed first. This is followed by emotional equilibrium being established within a few weeks. With long-term students, the regularity is less, though the advantages are maintained.
