Specific reflexology points in the hands provide relief when the location and stimulation are correctly made. The LI4 point is located between the thumb and first finger, and when stimulated, it takes care of headaches. PC6, situated above the inner wrist, is the point for nausea. I have taken clients to see these areas during trips and stressful situations. The tips of the fingers can also help alleviate sinus pressure when easier points are not effective.

LI4 (Hegu Point)

  • Located in thumb-index finger webbing's highest spot
  • Fleshy area avoiding bone contact
  • Headache relief: apply firm circular pressure

PC6 (Inner Gate)

  • Three finger-widths above inner wrist crease
  • Between two prominent tendons
  • Nausea control: press during motion sickness

Fingertip Zones

  • Pad areas below nails on all fingers
  • Concentrate on thumb and index tips
  • Sinus relief: press upward toward nail

Palm center points produce overall relaxation when massaged in a circular motion. Apply your opposite thumb in this area during breaks. I have found this especially useful for those who work at desks with computer issues. Combine with deep breathing to obtain a further relaxing effect.

Advanced combinations multiply the benefits of acupressure: Use LI 4 combined with temple massage for migraines. Alternate PC 6 with rotations of the wrist for motion sickness. I teach clients sequences of fingertip pressure points starting at the little finger and ending at the thumb which gives maximum drainage of the sinuses. Also, provide support for the hand on surfaces during application.

Expert techniques sharpen target zoning: certified therapists address other areas of the body such as Small Intestine 3 under the little finger for tension in the neck. Modifying pressure according to individual sensitivity is also important. Consider booking for sessions if self care doesn't reap great results after having tried consistantly for some days.
