To prevent health hazards during hand reflexology, certain pressure points are forbidden and need special precautions. Some of these areas must be avoided altogether, while other regions should be stimulated with caution. I have had clients who were obliged to suffer complications that resulted from stimulating some forbidden points. This work is being presented to emphasize these points and give them the attention they deserve.

Consult certified reflexologists for personalized guidance

Medical conditions require special caution with hand reflexology. Those with blood-clotting disorders must avoid deep pressure completely. I always recommend physician clearance before beginning sessions. Diabetics require special care due to nerve sensitivity changes, which may be present in the hands.

Correct adjustment of pressure prevents difficulty. If a sharp pain comes, stop at once; dull aches are all right. Beginners usually press too hard for immediate results. I teach my clients to use the lightest pressure possible for the first session and gradually increase this pressure over the following weeks. Two minutes on a point is the most.

Professional help is necessary to help clients manage health issues. Self-care is beneficial for overall wellness, but diagnosed health issues require professional assistance. Look for certified professionals affiliated with the Reflexology Association. Professionals conduct practice-specific assessments and techniques that keep the client safe, and they develop appropriately individualized practice plans while being aware of potential contraindications.
